February Wine Tasting Seance – Gundlach Bundschu – February 27th

Thursday, February 27th, from 5:30 to 7:00

Our host is Jeff Bundschu of Gundlach Bundschu, the 6th generation to run this 162 year old estate in Sonoma. I like his approach to the family business- it's his turn, and he's eliminated all non-estate vineyards, cut production by more than half, replanted over 60% of the estate, and overhauled the approach to winegrowing and winemaking.

Keith Emerson, master Bordeaux blender, is their Exec Winemaker. This "Rhinefarm" as they call it, has been a hub of the open-minded and spirited culture of Sonoma, not to mention the home of incredible concerts and celebrations. Jeff is quoted here saying, “Each generation of my family that has stood on this dirt felt compelled to looking at the vines and wines with a fresh eye. Our winery’s evolution is destined—families evolve. Land evolves. Plants evolve. Palates evolve. Our life here at Gundlach Bundschu, with its wine and good people, has always been about laughter, hard work, enjoying the inspiration that comes from being in such a beautiful place, and sharing what we have with our friends and neighbors.”

This property has many facets to it, steep slopes, high and low elevations, giving us exquisite Gewurztraminer, luscious Merlot, richly layered Cabernet, and more.
